FAQs

A daily skincare routine for your face and body is essential for healthy skin. Your cleansing product will help remove impurities and hydrate your skin. All too often, conventional soaps are too harsh and remove the hydrolipidic film that naturally protects our skin. Our first recommendation is therefore to choose a soap-free body cleanser with a gentle formula that respects the skin's balance and keeps it hydrated. Atoderm Shower Gel is ideal for normal to dry skin. If you have very dry, irritated or atopic skin, choose a formula that reinforces the skin barrier and hydration, such as Atoderm Shower Oil – which can be used for atopic eczema and itching sensations from birth.

Apply your body cleanser in the shower or bath to wet skin, massaging gently in a circular motion to optimize cleansing before rinsing. Remember to apply a BIODERMA moisturizer suited to your skin type after your shower.

Listening to your body is key. If you experience any discomfort after using a body wash, such as tightness, irritation, itching, or redness, it may not be the right product for your skin. It's important to note that allergic reactions can occur at any time, even days after first using a product. If you experience any adverse reactions, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional. BIODERMA skincare products are formulated under dermatological control to ensure very high tolerance. Products like Atoderm Shower Oil are specifically designed to strengthen the skin's natural barrier.

Body cleansers/wash and shampoo share many characteristics including their formulation, as they have the same overall objective of eliminating impurities like dirt, sweat and sebum.  However, each type of product are formulated to meet specific needs depending on where it is used and what it is used for. For example, a shampoo may increase shine or reduce dandruff. Apart from occasional use – when you run out or forget one or the other – it’s best to keep body cleanser or wash for your body and shampoo for your hair.

The pH (hydrogen potential) is an indicator that measures the acidity or alkalinity (basicity) of a liquid. Pure water has a pH of 7, which is considered neutral. Liquids with a pH lower than 7 are acidic. Those above 7 are alkaline (basic). The skin's physiological pH is defined by the pH of its hydrolipidic film – which is around 5.5, so slightly acidic. This acidity helps maintain an effective skin barrier and protect the skin from harmful bacteria. Pollution, cosmetics, UV rays and many other stressors can alter the skin's pH and therefore its balance, making it drier, oilier or more sensitive. Ideally, you want your body cleanser to respect the skin's physiological pH or help rebalance it with an adapted pH, for example, a lower pH for dry or atopic skin.
